Although wedding insurance has been around for over a decade, it still seems to be relatively new to the Irish Republic; we haven’t been brought up on it, haven’t really considered it seriously before and yet, it makes perfect sense!
Which when you consider the amount of money involved in a wedding, is very strange!
In 2009, it is estimated that 60,000 Irish couples will get married at an average cost of €17,000.00 per wedding; I‘ll save you the effort of doing the math, that amounts to a staggering
€1.0 BILLION!
And where does that money come from?
Usually the pockets of the happy couple and perhaps their families, who either fund the wedding from savings or, raise the money by way of loans and secured loans at that!
And yet, only 2% of couples cover their financial liabilities with insurance!
Just think about it, everything is geared to one fantastically important day when all of your well thought out plans and dreams come together!
Unfortunately, things can and do go wrong!
Just how many things could go wrong in the days leading up to the wedding or heaven forbid, on the day itself?
It’s enough to have to deal with the incredible disappointment of an unforeseen calamity on the big day that mess up your plans, but what if that calamity also includes financial loss?
Let’s face it, we insure our homes, its contents, our cars and we take out travel insurance for our holidays, so really, shouldn't we do the wise thing and ensure that our wedding is covered financially in the event of some unforeseen disaster?
